Week 12 Labs- Finally the Results are Back

Update 7/1/14

Late today all my lab reports finally came in. They are below- abnormal values are in Red. Here are a few of the highlights:

On the CMP
My Creatinine is slightly high for the first time. This could be from several causes but the most important one to watch for would be GoodPastures Syndrome- (a type of kidney dysfunction). I am checking my urine at home to monitor for this every 3 days and those results are normal so this is not a concern to me at this time. It may just be due to some temporary dehydration- I did not have much water to drink prior to these labs.

On the CBC
My White Cell count has climbed into the low normal level! I did not expect this so soon.

The RDW is going down- this value represents the % of the blood cells that are Red Cells- this number is coming down as my WBC continue to improve and normalize. This is a good sign.

Absolute Lymphocytes (white cells) have about tripled in the last 4 weeks. That is a good sign but I am still a far distance from baseline.

This picture taken together shows that I am now able to put up a good fight against pathogens that come my way and am not as susceptible to every cough & cold out there.

T & B Subset
This was the lab that was pending for so long and just came in today. I think these results are the most interesting. They are measuring different types of WBC and how they are recovering. WBCs types get their names from markers on their cell surface- so CD4 cells have the CD4 marker on its surface. They each have their own role. CD4 for example is the type of WBC that the HIV virus attacks.

All but the CD19 cells are recovering nicely. the CD8 cells are actually in the normal range. From what I understand this is normal. I have an appointment with my US Neurologist in about 3 weeks and will discuss all these with him at that time.

Questions?
Please email me if you have any questions. I am happy to answer anything related to this blog.
